R&G Fresh has been supplying premium fresh herbs and ingredients since 1958 across the UK. Originally starting out as a small stall in Covent Garden, they have grown from strength to strength, ensuring that every fresh herb or ingredient is ethically grown and is of the finest quality. They are passionate about delivering delectable herbs and ingredients to buyers, retailers, wholesalers, chefs and home cooks.
This is a free 306kWp system linked to a low cost solar Power Purchase Agreement with Electron Green. It will reduce R&G Fresh’s reliance on the grid by 30%, generate an estimated 260,000 kWh of electricity in its first year, and lead to a projected £1,350,000 in savings over 25 years. The environmental benefits are equally impressive – a reduction of 1,657 tonnes of carbon over 25 years, showcasing the potential of renewable energy in the food supply chain.
There are a series of voluntary agreements that aim to reduce the carbon emissions from the UK food and drink sector. This needs significant action to meet, for example, the Courtauld target of a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030. Solar is a perfect part of the programme: warehouse roofs tend to be big enough to easily accommodate a large solar PV system which can supply electricity directly into the building.
