  • The Partnership

The solar system at Oakham Ales is the first project delivered through our partnership with CUB. As well as installing solar, the site received a full legacy roof overclad, all delivered through a Power Purchase Agreement with zero upfront cost to Oakham Ales.

It’s a great example of how smart partnerships can unlock real value – improving sites, cutting energy costs and reducing carbon. This kind of collaboration sets the tone for renewable upgrades across breweries and industrial sites across the UK and shows how we work with brokers to deliver low-cost, long-term energy solutions that build resilience and support sustainability.

"We'd looked into solar before, but it was always too complicated. When Electron Green knocked on the door and offered to fund the long anticipated roof upgrade as part of the package, it was a clear win. A lot of brewers find the idea of solar a little bit daunting, and I think this project sends a message to a lot of my colleagues in the industry, that a medium to large sized brewery like us, with a lot of roof space, is a really good fit for solar, especially with a partner like Electron Green."

In the UK, beer is part of our national culture, and breweries like Oakham Ales take pride in crafting bold, flavourful brews. But behind every pint lies an energy-intensive process, with large amounts of heating, cooling, and cleaning needed to maintain quality and preserve flavour. Whilst brewers and their suppliers are increasingly focused on the sustainability aspect of the hops and malts used in their beers, brewing sustainably with these ingredients matters too.

Oakham had long thought solar wasn’t an option due to their ageing asbestos roof, but Electron Green made it possible by fully overcladding the roof and installing a rooftop solar PV system through a zero-capex PPA. The UK has many legacy buildings and factories like this; solar partners like Electron Green are key to unlocking projects once thought unfeasible. Now, Oakham is cutting emissions and enhancing the sustainability of their brews, without compromising on the bold taste they’re known for.
