Japanese food specialist, FOODEX operates from a warehouse property in Milan. This solar installation aligns with FOODEX's commitment to sustainability in supply chains and contributes to landlord and tenant sustainability targets. This project forms part of Electron Green's implementation and development of their solar roll-out programme.
FOODEX operates offices and warehouses in Milan and Rome. Since 1992, they have distributed Japanese foods across Europe, expanding to Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands, supplying over 10,000 customers with more than 2,500 products. Recognising the environmental impact of their operations, FOODEX has readily integrated renewable energy as part of its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The 300 kWp system, developed by Electron Green, is projected to generate 353,856 kWh in its first year of operation. Approximately 85% of this solar electricity will be consumed on-site by FOODEX, with the rest exported to the grid. The installation covers 1,500 square metres of roof area and is set to generate carbon savings of 2,075 tonnes over its lifetime.
FOODEX is part of an industry increasingly committed to green energy, driven by investments and policies to reduce carbon emissions, aligning with the European Green Deal and UN’s Agenda 2030. In Italy, food companies, supported by associations like Federalimentare, focus on water and energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly packaging, and reducing food waste. Alongside this, the integration of circular economic principles, such as renewable energy, is key for companies to meet their sustainability targets.
