Net Zero for Schools

Individual schools as well as Multi-Academy Trusts are facing huge pressures on their budgets with limited scope for capital investment and few options to cut operational expenses. Solar has obvious attractions, and it now becomes a real possibility with a free solar system combined with low-cost electricity through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Financially and environmentally, solar makes sense: generating carbon-neutral electricity, displacing grid energy, and avoiding the losses of power associated with transmission  of electricity from  power stations.

    How the system works

Our system delivers electricity directly to your school, providing low-cost, renewable energy. Your school will prioritise this electricity while staying connected to the grid - no need to change your energy supplier.

Electricity costs from utilities include the raw electricity ('commodity price') and additional charges like levies and taxes ('non-commodity price'). With rooftop generation, you only pay for the raw electricity, cutting overall costs.

Our systems operate during daylight hours, customised to your school’s energy needs for optimal efficiency and savings.

FAQ's

Solar PV (solar photovoltaics) is a way of generating electricity using energy from the sun. Modern solar panels produce electricity from daylight and do not require direct sunlight, although more electricity is generated on bright sunny days.

Electron Green conducts a free solar assessment, considering factors such as your roof’s orientation and your electricity usage. If a free solar system is suitable for your school, we will let you know. Get in touch to find out more.

Yes it is. This includes the solar panels, installation, and maintenance for 25 years. You’ll pay for only the solar electricity you use, at a price lower than your current utility cost.

Simply get in touch with us. There is no obligation to proceed beyond the information stage, but we would love to discuss solar with you.

No you don’t. Rooftop solar electricity is fed directly into your school and is used first before your building pulls from the grid for ‘top-up’ electricity. Any top-ups happen automatically. You don’t have to change utility provider and you don’t have to wait until your current utility contract comes to an end. Rooftop solar could supply up to 30% of your electricity needs.

Any solar electricity generated will be used by your school automatically. You don’t need to take any steps to make this happen.

This depends on the size of the system. A 50kWp system would take around 4-5 days. This can be done during school holidays to minimise disruption.

There are four key steps:

  1. Evaluation: A ‘desktop’ assessment  to assess your roof for solar – size of system, any shading, likely savings based on any information you have provided about your energy usage. You will get a report with our recommendations.
  2. Surveys: A detailed on-site survey of your school, roof and electrics followed by a detailed solar design.
  3. Install: Specify equipment, planning, and construction management. Everything is organised to avoid any disruption to school activities.
  4. Switch on: Once the system is in, you will start to receive clean and green electricity from the sun.

This free rooftop solar solution is simple and includes: free solar designs and surveys, a free solar PV system for the roof, free installation, free insurance, free maintenance for the life of your contract and a low price for electricity.

You have the option to purchase the solar system from us at any time, with the price adjusted to reflect depreciation over the duration of your contract.
